Large Unmarked English Silverplate Gallery Serving Tray — Reticulated Rail, Button Feet, Oval, 19⅝"

This is a large, handsome oval gallery serving tray in silver plate over copper, made in England in the mid-20th century in the traditional style of period Sheffield and Birmingham silverplate houses. The tray carries no maker's mark, but has an etched pattern/reference number "5299" on the underside.

The tray has a shaped oval form with a reticulated (pierced) rise-and-fall gallery rail running the full perimeter, giving it that classic raised-edge "gallery tray" silhouette. Two oval cut-out handles are built directly into the rail at each end for easy carrying. The well of the tray is beautifully chased with a dense, all-over flower and scrolling leaf pattern, and the piece stands on button feet.

This style — pierced gallery rail, floral chasing, button feet — was a widely produced form among English silverplate manufacturers of the era, and this example is a fine, well-made representative of that tradition.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Bright silver plate with only light, expected surface wear consistent with age and gentle use. No dents, no losses to the reticulated rail, no monogram. Ready to display or use.
