Rare 1880 Meriden Britannia Quad Plated Silver Revolving Chased Butter Dish with carrier.
The metal is quad-silver plate over bronze.
This 1880 Revolving Chased Butter Dish is on an engraved stand and has a revolving lid that slips under the round pot below the actual butter dish.
There are two handles on either side and slot for knife or spoon. The chain and peg is intended to slip into a slot and keep the lid in place when it is open. The bowl below the butter dish is intended for ice and keeps the contents of the dish cool.
Interestingly, this 1880 Revolving Chased Butter Dish was featured in the Busiest Home in America" Catalogue of 1887.
A round metal tray sits on a lip above the bowl. The 1880 Revolving Chased Butter Dish has a glass insert sits in the bowl (not included), and the revolving lid comes down over the dish. The handle is used to bring the dish to the table.
This 1880 Revolving Chased Butter Dish is in excellent condition and may have been replated.
